"The opening and central piece, Ontaarde Moeders (Unnatural Mothers, by Maarten van der Grinten), draws on the subtle counterpoints between the string quartet and the jazz trio, creating astonishingly beautiful oscillations between sombre and luminous melodic lines (...) The rest of the album, including the Mondriaan Quartet in one track only, finds the trio on more familiar ground, playfully reinventing Monk's Misterioso or tackling the misleadingly titled Little Bird - Depressed, composed by the band's saxophone player, Jan Menu (...) A wonderful record that never actually discloses itself".
