STATE OF THE UNION

A Collection of 68 short works curated by Elliott Sharp. Avant, Jazz, Rock, Noise, and all the Downtown space between. A good overview of what (some) Popular Music sounded like before the bloody 90s.

a true classic! e# probably had a better hand in curating compilations such as this, than with his own many projects, i think to myself. ;)

a bravo-thanks for sharing it!

btw: the ted rall comic you posted yesterday is funny - a bit over the top, but hitting the nail on the head!

SW: Thank you for your recent comments, and a bravo 2009.

Lucko Akbar: I enjoy some early Sharp, but most of the 90s/00s stuff (including, imo, most of those breakbeat attempts) are quite dull and unispired.
Nails, hammers, walls.

Saw E# last time about 2 years ago, solo guitar with multiple effects, delays etc. The sound overall was sometimes quite interesting, but Sharp didn't seem to really enjoy himself while playing - quite contrary to someone like Jon Rose, whom I saw in a similar setting, but much more in contact with his listeners, interacting, open, etc. Well, not everybody can be communicative, maybe Sharp is locked inside his universe and can't find an exit...
